Do Special Collections and University Archives offer internships?

Answer

Yes. Interns assist with projects related to archives, rare books, or preservation in the Special Collections and University Archives. Archival projects may include accessioning archival collections, arranging and describing materials, writing finding aids, adding descriptive information to Archivists’ Toolkit, and preparing materials for exhibit. Rare book and preservation projects may include preservation surveys of the collection, re-housing materials, or other similar projects. The final project will be determined in consultation with the internship supervisor.

This is an excellent opportunity for students wishing to explore career opportunities in a special collections, library, or archives setting. The intern will also learn about other areas of archival management including: blogging about special collections activities, selecting materials for digitization, and preparing for upcoming exhibits.
